In a small theatre
Last evening we went to the cinema. A total change up for us because that is not something that we have made part of our entertainments cycle for years. And of course I went to see something that I had seen before. Four decades or more ago. To put a title on it this was RHPS or as you may know it Rocky. One of those cult classics that is best seen with friends. Our local cinema and theatre is an older setting that is trying to recast itself for the new millennia. That is, they purchased a small sound system and pull down screen and they figured out how to make popcorn. All good. I have seen rocky on several occasions. I think I was in the audience the first time it was shown in this province. Back before children. I should add that this is an adult movie. Sort of. And the people in charge of the gate had to turn away a parent who wanted their child to come along. They used the classic two young which fits well with the classic film. In truth the cartoon segment before the show was probably less appropriate than the actual production. This is one of those shows that you need to see again and again to put all the dominos in a row. I don’t know how to explain what it was like to be in an audience of less than 25 people on a cool evening with a sound system that seemed to have its own life. Musical after a fashion but hardly high fidelity. I would love to see it again though. Perhaps I can recall some of my dance moves from so many years ago. Just to jump. We stayed right to the end when the house lights came back up and we had to admit to ourselves that this was an interesting way to spend a Friday night. It is too bad that the committee had not advertised more broadly or widely. Get some of the townies out of their comfort zone to come to a place far from home. That is the story of Rocky.
