Some call him calm
He dog is older. And he handles adversity in a very senior, civilized manner. The water bowl is empty? Ring the bell. The outside lead is caught sit and wait for rescuer. No sense stretching the neck muscles, when the humans are always nearby.
In sharp contrast, our loaner dog comes from a long line of sled dogs. We do not know that, for sure because neither he nor his family discuss where he came from, but I will go with an educated guess. He understands hauling. Today, we connected him to the convenient lead attached to our front railing, and he promptly uprooted it. Four lag bolts, out.
I have always thought of our railing as decorative. It is troubling to learn that my conclusion was coherent. The lead has been retied to the steps, and if they get pulled up we have more to deal with than a hauler.
Funny how I jumped to a conclusion. Not all dogs are docile. It changes little. We are going to share our bed for a few more days, and any outside time will be better supervised. Maybe I can get the visitor a job as a stump puller, or a turf turner. Something better fitted to his talents. And our dog will continue to wait for the water bowl to magically refill.
