At the ankles of genius
We live in a wonderful age. Not only do we have unlimited access to interesting music, but we can also listen to the actual musicians, as they explain the inspiration behind their efforts. Only a generation ago, you would have had to find a place by the virtual hearth, and ask pointed questions.
Today, I had a chance to learn some of the technical details behind the “Bohemian Rhapsody”. Incredibly complex in terms of harmonic theory. And the chance to hear from one of the original artists added depth. This was not a one-take wonder, And, it will probably never be repeated. Too much of the original genius is already gone.
I dream of dabbling in recording. My son does so. Given the constraints of time and distance, I won’t have a chance to sit and watch, but who knows what the future might hold?
Outside, more snow. We had to rescue the dog from the snow clearance; he was too stupid to catch on that this wasn’t dog stuff. Also, he did that silly “soft bark” thing, which meant that the tractor pilot had no idea of his audience. Yes, we towed the hound back to the porch, where he could wonder at the skill of humans. Would a young child act any differently? I mean, other than barking pointlessly.
New snow means new opportunities for those who practice winter games. Snow things. Shoes. Skis. No sledding, because you need a decent hill for that to be fun. Go ahead; try sitting outside, waiting for gravity. See what I mean?
