Inhabitual alarm

posted in Uncategorized |

After a good night under a rain-driven sky which comes with its own soothing sounds, we awoke to something inhabitual. One site over, a man was attempting to mate his 5th wheel with his pickup, and it was going very slowly. I think his partner had gone for a morning stroll, and he was sure he could get things road-ready on his own. I didn’t watch, out of respect, but the various mechanical crashes told me enough. And, eventually, everything came together so that the reunited couple could leave.

Our preps take much less effort, and we were away a short while later. As tourists, we decided to follow the “old highway”. Many dips and rises, many curves, never loosing sight of the nearby mighty river.

At one point, after deciding that a full fuel tank would be fun, we started an AI battle. One one side, the lovely Siri, who always has a qualified response to a question. On the other side, Gas Buddy, who knows where all the fuel bunkers are hidden. And we simply let them talk among themselves. They agreed on the destination (we think) but everything in between here and there turned into a two-voiced advisory. Finally, we gave up and used our own logic: modern service centres are located along major highways.

At another point, we had to follow a detour (due to a bridge replacement). That nulled out two hours of travel, and we ended up close to where we started. Never did find the confounded bridge.

There also was a rushed visit to a familiar furniture store, to purchase bedding. I don’t know the back story to that one. And now we are waiting on a family member who is away to Pilates. Again, I lack context, but I have bubbly water and the dog is enjoying just being.
