When the wireless is ephemeral

There is something very zen about waking to the sound of a good surf. Lay back, allow your ears to resonate with thousands of tiny subharmonic notes. White noise, in the original version. We had no rain overnight, but the campground is running on a low note right now, as the fairweather campers have all gone away. I feel like someone caught in a last man on earth movie.

A tale of two sisters

There once were two sisters. The first, older and wiser and prettier, found herself under the shadow of the second, who was infinitely more worldly and famous. No matter how hard the first sister (let’s call her Quebec) tried, everyone continued to remark on how the second sister (let’s call her Montreal) was superior in all that mattered.

A cultural minefield

Playing in a minefield is something that the wise avoid. That applies to the virtual along with the real. I live in a cultural minefield, one where the next innocent pile of dust might virtually destroy your leg. You see, language goes to the very soul of policy with the governance of this country. Pick a level, any level; sorry, you lose. Next.

Oh yes, this time around, it appears that our arms sales have been doing much better than previously reported. Or, not reported, in this case.

Just a foreign affair

After a long hot day, what better way to relax than with some rental movies, in your own living room with several fans blowing and a tub of really cold icecream? I know, there are many, but each must choose their poison. I took the suggestion of son #3 to heart and we made the trip up the hill to the video club. Since all the summer blockbusters are still in the multiplexes, we had to settle for an different type of entertainment. In our case, the choice was just a foreign affair.

A day in the life

So today was a holiday. Holy day, holiday, day off. No doubt in my mind that there’s been a certain change in the religious priorities around here. At one time, Good Friday meant an afternoon in church, less food than usual and no meat. Now; well let’s just take a walk through the busy schedule that I had to deal with, shall we?
