Eating humble pie

posted in history, music |

Feeling musically inclined? Hungry for some humble pie” Take a few minutes to read the biographies of some of the famous classical composers.

See what I mean. If people are still saying your name, in polite terms, a full two centuries after you’ve gone on to dust, then you can brag a little. I was not aware of how prolific some of the big names were (in musical terms). Mozart: with 626 compositions in his catalogue… not too shabby. Haydn: able to write a tune a day during parts of his working life. The rest of us would do well to hum a tune (the same one) for more than a few days in a row. Bach: people put statues of the man in their homes. Ditto for Beethoven. My music history course is filling in a lot of blanks left during my more formal education. To be fair, the musty history course in ’72 was a real snoozefest, and my reputation as able to snore at 8h15 will stay with me. Perhaps not for two centuries, but…

Today was the Speech From The Throne, wherein the current government demonstrated their addiction to hyperbole and not much else. One hour of good intentions. Not mine.

Another quiet evening around here. Just me ‘n the dog to keep the house anchored. In a few minutes, Republic of Doyle will be on, so I’d better figure out how to record it before rather than after the fact.

And the oddest happening today? When I received a call from a shipping firm, just to let me know that they had hidden a parcel somewhere behind the house.
